Some of you who follow [livejournal.com profile] shadesong may have heard that we recently had a disagreement. It was kind of funny to have a drama; I almost forgot what it was like, it's been so long. (yay!) Some times I feel like I don't stand up for my reputation the way I probably should. As such, here is the rest of the story.

Last year, Shadesong was complaining about her options in having a site for her blogathon auction. I had just learned VBScript, so I volunteered for free to make a site and host it on my website. A few months later, it was done. I sent her a link to it and asked her to have a few friends try it out. I proceeded not to hear from her again on this subject until July 6th, so I had assumed that she didn't want to use it anymore. I really should have known better than to try to use a system that had not been thoroughly tested! Bad MIS, no computer cookie.

Yes, there were problems with the pages. Some were my fault (see above statement). Some were due to bad communication. Some were related to the browser system ([livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain can verify this.) A few of the problems were caused by GoDaddy, like their email system changing and, weirder than that, the function ucase suddenly stopped working after a few days. I spent a huge chunk of my time getting the database and pages ready as well as helping to input data into the database. Shadesong asked for some pretty big system changes and I did my best to accommodate her. I even wrote some pages to allow her to update the database directly.

The problems really started when the auction ended on August first, which is when she first told me the auction was ending. August second was also called the end date, so I assumed she meant midnight between August first and second. She denies that she ever told me August first, despite me sending her the email that she send me which states "They'll all be going July 26-August 1". Though to be fair, I should have asked about the exact time. She then announced in her LJ that the auction would be extended until 5 PM then next day, without asking if that was a good time for me! You don't close a database during an active bidding time and that is the time I am usually out picking up my children from day-camp. Aggravation level is starting to climb here.

Then all hell broke loose when the auction shut down again the next night. I really don't know how it occurred, but the EndData of all of the items was changed to 8/3/10. I doubled checked the ASP page I used to change the data, and it showed 8/4/10. She then wrote this post: http://shadesong.livejournal.com/4158674.html (please don't leave comments there if you read it. Arguing with her is like being in the middle of the Dead Parrot Sketch. It was truly surreal.) Part of me feels like I made a low blow when I said, "It must be nice to live in a world where you are always right. Too bad it's not reality." But to be honest, part of me that was picked on in school really, really likes those lines.

Lost thousands of dollars? BS. The auction brought in $1697.45 and the auction was down during times that shows the least number of biddings posted. Failed to respond? There's this little thing called sleep. She should try it to avoid stress. And when I wasn't sleeping, I was doing her auction. And not my homework, like I should have been doing.

I spend countless hours this last month on this project. I did most everything that she asked for. I even send out the notification emails by hand when the email system failed. This required me to be chained to the computer every waking hour. I didn't even get a thank you from her at any time. And now she publicly attacks me because of this? Lesson learned here: don't do Shadesong any favors unless you plan to do then exactly to *her* specifications. And I don't believe a word she says about anything anymore, because she's proved herself to be completely separated from reality.

On the plus side, I made a neat new friend in [livejournal.com profile] roaming, who has had a truly amazing past. I really appreciate my sane and rational friends more now. You folks are awesome! And I had a drama. :)
